After 4 (that’s right…four) attempts I was able to get this project up off the ground!. I almost gave it up in disgust with myself, however I remember telling my three kids to never give up, keep trying and give it your best shot. So I followed my own advice! While it may not the best looking hat I am still very proud of it because I literally put everything into it. We (the project and I) fought, cried and even put each other in time out but in the end it was all worth it! LOL! The pattern is called Color Pop Hat by Claire Winters of We Love Knitting. The pattern is a free Ravelry download. I used US 8 circular needles with a 16 inch cable. Main color of the hat was Caron Simply Soft in Cobalt Blue, the trim and pom pom were in Blue Mint (same yarn).
If anyone knows of a good Youtube video or online course on how to use DPNs please let me know in the comments. I had some serious issues with those DPNs when it was time to do my decreasing. I had so much trouble that I had to start the hat over again! This time I looked on Knit Picks Youtube videos on how to knit a hat and was able to do what is called the magic loop method (it was hard on 16 inch cables!) Here are some pictures of the hat and I think it will go well with my ruffle scarf I have had for a while. If you know of any other good beginner knit projects please let me know…but please no dishcloths! LOL!!
My 8 1/2 year old dog “Patches” wanted to get in on the action of having her photo taken! She is a Dachshund/Jack Russell Mix.
