The State Fair of Texas is big doings here in Texas. It runs from September 26-October 19 this year and every year my family attends. There is so much to see and do from rides, games, food (lots of fried food….its ok to indulge a little!), the auto show, concerts, livestock and other animals. There is so much that I haven’t even begun to list them all! If you are interested to see what it’s all about here. There is a building at the fair called the Creative Arts Building where many handcrafted items are displayed that were awarded ribbons. You can see anything from model ships, ceramics, jewelry, knitting and crochet. I have always admired the handiwork no matter what the craft was but as I looked at the crochet items I thought to myself, “why not me? I can make items just as nice.” So this year I decided to enter. I entered items in three categories one was a layette set (I just made the jacket and the pants). The pattern was from Just Crochet, Heather has baby patterns for sell and some free patterns…they are very adorable! The second item was a sock monkey hat by Sarah from Repeat Crafter Me. She has very whimsical crochet patterns (they are free too!). The third item where candy corn earrings made from polymer clay. I didn’t get a picture of those but I will post at a later date. The earrings were designed by Inedible Jewelry and they have a book you can get that shows you how to make various miniature foods. Judging begins after August 17…..hopefully I will receive a ribbon….fingers crossed! Here are some photos, minus the candy corn earrings.
